We do love to be beside the seaside!

The year two classes across the federation had an amazing time at the seaside this week!

Here are some of lovely recounts the children produced in Orange class.

‘We got to school at 8:15 and excitedly walked to the coach to meet the children from Tower Bridge school. Then we drove to the beach. When we arrived, we started to play with our buckets and spades in the sand. Next, we had our scrumptious lunch then played for a while. The water was a bit chilly and the adults took photos of us playing in the sea. We had a class photo and everyone was smiling to remember this fantastic trip. Finally, I tiredly got back and felt sleepy. I slept all the way home.’

‘We went to school very early and got on the coach. We all went to Southend and got our buckets to make sand castles and some people were finding shells. Next we were so hungry that we had some lunch on the beach. After, we were splashing water! It was fun!

Finally, we were sleeping on the coach because we were so tired after a lovely day.’

A Tale Unfolds filming project with Yellow Class

We have been working really hard with a company called ‘A Tale Unfolds’ on a film making project about the negative impact plastic has on the environment and especially on sea life. Our main objective was to create a film to encourage people to stop throwing plastic and all sort of non-recyclable rubbish. We want people to think how the future will be if the earth surface was covered in refuse. On the 19th June, we went to the IMAX cinema to watch the film we made. We were amazed to see ourselves on the giant screen. We had a great time!
Thank you to Dominic and everyone else.

EYFS at the Sea Life Aquarium

DSC06985The children in Butterfly and caterpillar classes had a fantastic time at Sea Life Aquarium on the South Bank. It has been a very successful trip and a lot of it was thank you to the people who assisted us with our volunteers and adult ratios so a huge thank you – it made the day run smoothly especially when it got really busy!
We had a great trip and we even had members of the public on the bus and bus stops commenting on the children’s excellent behaviour and their knowledge about the sea animals. We staggered our arrival times and we were really pleased to have a bus driver who understood the needs of the children and waited for us all to be safely seated before driving on. The aquarium staff were very welcoming and all the adults who came with us took excellent care of the children and discussed with them the different animals we saw. This was a very rich experience for all the children. I think everyone coped really well with the heat and we had lots of water and shade break too!DSC06982DSC07015DSC_0353DSC06980DSC07009IMG_5744DSC07017DSC07006

Year 3: Reading Cafe

Both Year 3 classes across the federation recently hosted their reading cafes to parents. Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend. The children have enjoyed sharing stories and their new books with you.

“I like that Mum sits quietly for longer to listen to me read without my sister chatting at the book.

It’s fun to read with mum. I like reading with mum and my friends.”

“My child reads really well with confident and can retell the story.”

“My child is relaxed, confident and very keen to read – he read the whole book ‘Dino Danger'”

snowsfields General Elections 2017

We have run our own general elections today to decide who the next prime minister will be. We watched the different political party 60 second guides and discussed which party would look after us the best.  In class, we talked about democracy and how important it is to cast a vote. When it was time to vote, the school councillors called our names and gave us a ballot paper. We then went inside a polling booth and chose our party.  The votes were counted and the Labour party won by a landslide! Matan and Abigail Year 4

Year 1 Assembly

Last Friday Year 1 performed our class assembly. Our topic is on monsters and we performed a play about a good monster who was judged by the way she looked.

“I played a good monster. I had to go in the cupboard and then Temitayo and Temidayo took me to the zoo. I enjoyed when I came back to my family.” Angelina

“I liked the part when I went to get the banners.” Franky

“I enjoyed it when everyone said yes when Temitayo asked them to get the monster.” Zeinab

Thank you to all the parents who came to watch. It was great to see so many of you and we hope you enjoyed it!

EYFS Trip to the Science Museum

DSC06557DSC06554

On Wednesday 3rd May Reception had the lovely opportunity to visit the Science Museum! We had a wonderful experience of getting to take the tube and we were very sensible and responsible during our travel. It was very exciting to travel in this way! When we arrived at the Museum we got to visit some interactive workshops, including the Garden and Pattern Pod in which we got to explore patterns in the world and lots of sensory changes and experiences. We had lots of fun investigating a new environment! Well done Reception for not only being really safe on our trip but also having lots of fun and trying out new things!

Potters Fields Herb Garden

Ahead of International Herb Day, which took place on Saturday 6th May, a pop up urban herb garden was erected on Potters Fields. The horticultural display celebrated the benefits of growing and cultivating your own herbs. Gardening expert Charlie Dimmock was on hand explaining how to make the most of small spaces and how herbs can be a great introduction into gardening. Our

School Council members and Science Leaders were invited by Team London Bridge to attend this event and were eager to hear Charlie’s her top tips.

We are really lucky and extremely grateful to Team London Bridge for donating the Herb Garden to the Bridges Federation. The move will kick start our garden improvement project.

‘We are really looking forward to welcoming some volunteers from Team London Bridge and the Belmond Group on 12th May to help us develop our vegetable patch and grow our own produce!’
