We are really proud of our year 1 and 2 children who took part in the 2017   THINK! logo road safety campaign!

‘I was asked to take part in a road safety film and I loved it! My favourite part was when the director gave me a microphone then he could hear me talk to him when he was wearing his headphones. I had to be really loud so all the people who watched the video could hear me!’ P.V Y2

‘The road safety day was really fun because we got to dress up and sing a song about being safe when crossing the road. I learned how to keep myself safe and said some important lines when I was dressed up as a police officer.’ L.F Y2

The Latimer group were commissioned to make two short films to educate children on the right way to cross the road. The Bridges Federation students helped to demonstrate and explain how to cross the road. The department for Transportation and Latimer wish to pass on huge thanks to the schools for their support!’

Blue Class: Lanterns of Light

This week we had a lantern workshop. We had to make them for a lantern parade!! First we put ourselves in two groups. I was in the Berry group. On the first day we met Helen who was our teacher. First we made the shape with bamboo. The next day we covered it with strong tissue. Then we stuck on paper.

For the last three days we have been making lanterns for the up-coming Christmas parade on 30th November. It will be dark so we are going to light them. Helen (an artist) helped us make them. We made them with: bamboo, sticks, strong tissue paper and coloured tissue paper.

We made a lantern we loved it and did it in 3 days. We are going to light them up when it is dark. We had help from Helen – she is a very good artist. We had to use lots of tape and glue.

International Week 2017!

We had an amazing time during International Week!

We learnt about very famous and inspirational scientists while having the most fun ever!

Joshua Year 5

This week we have learnt about Black History Month.  This poem is inspired by what happened in the past.  I hope this poem can change the way we live.

Imagine

Imagine being forced to exile your homeland,

Imagine seeing your ancestors getting beaten and mistreated,

Imagine using an old, scruffy sink when people with a different skin colour use a gleaming, clean sink,

Imagine being ashamed of who you are,

Imagine being surrounded by people who don’t accept you,

Imagine regretting the colour of your skin,

Imagine how happy we could be if we all accepted each other,

Paddington!

Some of our children were lucky to be invited to the official launch of the new film: Paddington 2!

 

They went to meet Paddington at MoreLondon, who happened to bring another star of the film, Hugh Bonneville as well as the Mayor, Sadiq Khan. The children behaved beautifully, even though Paddington was being a little bit naughty.

INTERNATIONAL WEEK 2017!

International Week celebrated Black history Month with a special focus on scientists and inventors.

The children have spent this week writing biographies, creating portraits and writing poetry to be read aloud at International Evening.

We had learnt about Bessie Coleman as part of Black History Month. On Tuesday and Wednesday we made portraits of her in the morning. In the afternoon we made models of planes on foam. We cut out the pieces and painted them. After that we came to International Evening. We ate food and I did the drumming performance. At the end I took a picture with my family and went home. Akilah

This year’s International Week was sensational. Year five learnt about Bessie Coleman, the first black female pilot in the world! The thing that stood out for me was International Evening. The drummers that had been practising for that very special evening also there was various types of foods like: bread, cake, chicken and lots of snacks. During that week we made portraits of Bessie Coleman, made mini planes in honour of Bessie and flags for International Evening. Zaki

At International evening I ate mouth-watering food. Then we had to do a drumming rehearsal and that was great. We were very nervous if anything went wrong. The audience came down and watched us do the show. First drumming, and there were no mistakes. Then me and Samia read Imagine. The choir sang amazing and tuneful songs. The fashion show started and I was first to pose. We had to walk across with our stunning outfits and show off. Overall I was glad to participate. Safaa

LPESSN – Girls in Sport Week

The LPESSN (London PE and Sport School Network) held some events to celebrate Women in Sport. Girls from the federation took part in American Football and Boxing.

On Monday some of us went to learn how to play American football. First we learnt what the people were called and we played. I was partnered up with someone from another school. It was tricky at first. I think we should play more of it in the school and I am sure other children in the school will enjoy it, but during it we needed to use tags as barging at each other is not allowed. We learnt how to kick the ball over the cross bar. It was the best day and we were given badges.

We went to Bacon’s college to play   American Football. We were in two teams. The first team was attacking and the other team had to defend. We had so much fun it was the best day. We also did some warm ups and other games. We had tags around our waists—the other team had to get them.

At the end of playing football the lady gave us badges.

Cross Country Running

For the past year, children have been running everyday for 5 minutes at the beginning of morning play. They have been building up their stamina and resilience – some are even running a mile each morning!!!
Last week some of the Year 5 and 6 pupils went to Southwark Park to take part in a 2km cross country run, and that afternoon we were treated to an assembly from parkrun junior to inspire us even more1

IntoUniversity Week

Year 6 spent a week working with IntoUniversity, a local learning centre which runs workshops and projects inspiring young people to achieve a higher education.

Purple class were lucky enough to visit HMS Belfast and visit Trinity College in Cambridge! Such wonderful opportunities to start their journey in Year 6.

Churchill’s War Room

On Monday 18th September, we went to the Churchill War Rooms. Once inside, we were shown a video from World War 2. We were handed out some devices that informed us about the different rooms. Interestingly, the people that worked there left the rooms in the same state as when they first went in.  We visited the meeting rooms, the dormitories and even saw Winston Churchill’s room!

When we arrived at the museum, we were given a grid each which needed to be filled in with information on Winston Churchill’s life. After watching a documentary on the interactive board which helped us learn more about the war and Churchill’s history, we visited different sections that covered Winston Churchill’s life; starting from his childhood and finishing off on the day he died. We learnt lots about him. For example, we did not know that he was a fine artist and that he was Queen Elizabeth’s II first prime minister. We have loved learning about his fascinating life and cannot wait to write our biographies on such an important figure.  Lona and Seryn.

Lilah

Lucy took a photo of us and cut it in half. We put half of the photograph and then we drew the other side of our faces using lots of different colours. When we drew the other side we coloured it in neatly and in the lines.

We had to colour in our faces neatly and make sure that there was no gap. We also had to draw the other side of our faces the same as the photo so we had to concentrate and not rush it.

Roman

Looking closely at my photo, I added all the distinctive details of my face. If I made a mistake I would go over it again. In the background of the portrait we drew random horizontal and vertical lines but no too many so that it created squares and rectangles.

​To colour in our portraits we had to choose either cool or warm colours. Warm colours are red, orange, yellow and pink. The cool colours are blue, purple and green. We used these to colour in our faces, features and the background of our portrait. The effects are really cool. It’s like we have taken a photograph and coloured it in.

For our portraits in Year 6 we used pop art as our inspiration and made our very own pop art portraits. We first, took our time to observe our photographs and  looked intently at our facial features . We had to be very careful when drawing our portraits so our pictures would come out great! We then coloured in our portraits in vibrant colours and added dots to give them depth. After that, we drew a thought bubble where we wrote our aspirations for the future.
Overall, the entire process was really fun are brilliant!
