Welcome to Robert Browning
We are a friendly and caring school, located right next to the vibrant and busy East Street Market. The school includes a nursery class with 26 children. The school became part of a soft federation with The Bridges Federation in September 2018 and moved to a hard federation in November 2019. This means we get to work alongside two other great Southwark schools, sharing good practice, and we also retain our unique and special identity.
Our aim is that every child should leave primary school reaching their potential. They should be able to read, write and use a range of mathematical strategies to the highest standard. We offer an exciting and creative curriculum that builds on the interests of the children and involves them in shaping their own learning. We want pupils to enjoy their learning and to develop the skills they need to contribute positively to their community. We want them to leave our school ready for an ever changing world, able to ask questions and think for themselves. Our pupils respect each other, are kind and caring towards each other and support each other.
The children at Robert Browning benefit from a wide range of enrichment activities as part of our extended curriculum, exposing them to new experiences and helping them discover hidden talents. We make the most of our location and this informs our curriculum.
The school itself is a Victorian building, with large classrooms spread over three floors. We have recently finished a huge renovation programme and the school is looking fabulous. The playground is well resourced, with the additional benefit of a multi-use pitch on our school roof!
At Robert Browning we consider parents as partners, working together to promote high standards of learning and behaviour. We, like you, want every child to achieve their best. We are developing a programme of parents’ workshops and ‘stay and learn’ sessions. In these sessions parents and carers are invited to spend some time in their children’s class engaging with and developing their understanding of the primary curriculum. We know that children achieve more when we work together.
Every child is special in our school. We aim to nurture each individual, so that they achieve their best and leave our school as well rounded individuals, with high aspirations. We expect all children to succeed, to take risks and try their hardest- so that they can be the best they can be.
We are committed to promoting and safeguarding the welfare of all children. We are fortunate to have a strong and proactive pastoral team who offer support to children and their families, removing barriers to learning and improving life opportunities.
