Welcome to Snowsfields
Welcome to Snowsfields Primary School. We are a friendly and caring one form entry school taking 28 children into our mainstream classes each year. The school includes a nursery class with 26 part time children and a Resource Base for children with Autism. We can offer a Breakfast Club from 8am and an After School Club that is open until 6pm. The school is part of The Bridges Federation with Tower Bridge and Robert Browning Primary Schools.
The school itself is a Victorian building, with large classrooms spread over four floors. We have a beautiful garden which has been developed over the years and is used as an outside learning environment through our ‘Garden School’. The playground is well resourced, with the additional benefit of a shared community kick-about pitch.
We have worked hard to improve the school year on year, both academically and through our enrichment programmes. This has been reflected in a number of awards that we have received including: the Primary Science Quality mark (Silver), An Artsmark Award, the NACE Challenge Award for excellence in provision for gifted and talented pupils, a Healthy Schools London Award, an Activemark and an ICT quality mark. We have been recognised by the local authority for our ICT provision with a good practice award, and have developed a number of links with software developers such as the Kuato Studios with whom some of our children worked very closely to develop coding games such as Code Warriors.
We are very fortunate to have developed some fantastic partnerships in our locality. Local businesses such as PricewaterhouseCoopers, COSTAIN, Winckworth Sherwood and Group M have supported the school by funding enrichment projects and by providing volunteers.
We are a partner school with the Unicorn theatre. Children attend performances there and staff have received professional development opportunities. We also have links with The Globe Theatre and Southwark Playhouse.
We are proud of our inclusive school. Admission to our Resource Base is arranged through Southwark’s Special Needs Department. The provision consists of two classrooms, a playground, soft play and a sensory room. Each child within the resource base has their own timetable, integrating for some sessions with children in the main school.
At Snowsfields we consider parents as partners, working together to promote high standards of learning, behaviour and attitudes to empower every child to achieve their best. We highly regard parental involvement and have invested a lot of our efforts in building a robust programme of parents’ workshops and ‘stay and learn’ sessions. In these sessions parents and carers are invited to spend some time in their children’s class engaging with and developing their understanding of the primary curriculum.
The children at Snowsfields benefit from a wide range of enrichment activities as part of our extended curriculum exposing them to new experiences and helping them discover hidden talents. Our after school provision is well attended and includes puppetry, jewellery making, guitar lessons, coding, basketball, athletics and football.
Every child is special in our school. We aim to nurture each individual, so that they achieve their potential and leave our school well rounded and with high aspirations.
